Federal Judiciary Workers Petition Chief Justice Over Delayed Entitlements

Abuja, Nigeria – Workers within Nigeria’s Federal Judiciary have formally appealed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, over the prolonged delay in the payment of their outstanding salary increments and entitlements.

In a letter signed by Oyewole Kayode Emmanuel on behalf of the concerned workers, the judiciary staff expressed deep concern over the financial hardship caused by the non-payment of their rightful benefits, despite their continued service to the nation’s justice system.

“For an extended period, our dedicated workers in the Federal Judiciary have been waiting for the payment of their rightful entitlements, yet nothing has been done,” the letter stated. “This issue has persisted, causing significant distress and financial strain for many who have always committed themselves to serving justice in Nigeria.”

Emmanuel emphasized the critical role judiciary workers play in upholding the rule of law and maintaining the smooth operation of the legal system. He warned that continued delays in compensation have eroded staff morale and productivity.

“The commitment to our duties is unwavering, but the lack of timely remuneration undermines our morale and productivity,” he noted.

While acknowledging the economic challenges currently facing the country, the workers urged the Chief Justice to intervene and prioritize the resolution of the issue. They stressed that timely payments are essential not only for their welfare but for the overall integrity and efficiency of the judiciary.

“We understand the government’s challenges, but it is essential that this matter be resolved quickly. Ensuring that judiciary workers receive their rightful dues is a matter of great importance, as it will reinforce the integrity of our legal system,” Emmanuel added.

The letter concluded with a call for urgent action and a request for a definitive timeline for the settlement of all outstanding payments.
