UMUAHIA – Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia North Senatorial Zone have expressed confidence that the party will successfully reclaim power from Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party in the 2027 general election.
At a recent stakeholders meeting in Abiriba, located in the Ohafia Local Government Area, party members from the five councils of Abia North – Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, Arochukwu, and Umunneochi – emphasized unity within the party and asserted that regaining control of the state is possible. They urged members to put aside personal interests and divisive tendencies, focusing instead on rebuilding the party in preparation for the upcoming elections.
The five PDP chairmen from the councils affirmed the party’s strong presence in their respective areas, noting that members are actively engaging in reconciliation efforts to address grievances and unite the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Elder Amah Abraham, the State Chairman of PDP, assured stakeholders that the party would carefully vet all aspirants seeking tickets in 2027, considering their backgrounds and the support they command. He praised the commitment of the five chairmen and other stakeholders in Abia North, recognizing their unwavering dedication to promoting the party despite challenges.
“In 2027, we will issue party tickets to candidates who truly reflect the people’s choice,” Abraham stated. “We are confident that the PDP will win the governorship seat and a majority of the seats in the House of Assembly. PDP remains strong in Abia North and across the other 12 Local Government Areas. Those who sabotaged the party have left, and anyone who attempts to do so again will face consequences. The only option for such individuals is to leave the party. I am fully confident that the PDP will secure the Abia Government House in 2027.”
Chief Gabriel Elendu, the PDP Chairman of Abia North, also weighed in, asserting that the party could return to its winning ways by fielding credible candidates with the ability to win elections. He urged party members to remain steadfast and focused on the goal of regaining power in 2027.
Amidst the ongoing defections within the state, Chief Mandela Obasi, the member representing Ohafia North State Constituency, reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP. He vowed to continue supporting the party’s efforts until it regains its lost prominence, noting that his people, the Abiriba, are known for their resilience in adversity. As the highest-ranking member of the Abia State House of Assembly from Abia North, Obasi emphasized his responsibility to lead the charge for the party’s revival.
Similarly, Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi, the member representing Bende South, expressed his steadfast support for the PDP and called on party leaders to prioritize the interests of their followers.
In their speeches, stakeholders from Isuikwuato Local Government Area, including PDP Assistant National Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, Hon. Emmanuel Okoronkwo, and Chief Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah, responded to the defection of Hon. Lucky Johnson, the member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, to the Labour Party. They dismissed the impact of his departure, stating that it has only strengthened the PDP’s political structure in Isuikwuato. According to the stakeholders, the party’s support in the area is now stronger and better positioned for the future.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the PDP in Abia North is determined to reunite and reclaim its influence in the state’s political landscape.
