A tragic incident has rocked the Sara District of Gwaram Local Government Area in Jigawa State, where a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, allegedly killed his 57-year-old biological father, Salisu Abubakar.
According to local sources, the incident occurred late Monday night at Bakin Kasuwa Quarters. Residents said family members woke up to find the victim lying in a pool of blood with multiple machete wounds across his body.
The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Birnin Kudu but was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
Confirming the incident in a statement to DAILY POST, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the attack was reported to the police around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 5.
“Preliminary information revealed that Muhammad Salisu, 20, attacked his 57-year-old biological father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete, inflicting severe injuries on his shoulder, neck, and chest,” the police spokesperson said.
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Sara Division quickly mobilized to the scene, where they evacuated the victim to the hospital. SP Shiisu confirmed that the suspect was arrested at the scene and the weapon used in the attack was recovered.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation. The suspect is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
